V porovnaní s minuloročnou kvalifikáciou na VC Japonska si najviac polepšili v Aston Martine. Medziročne zrýchlili o takmer 1,8 sekundy, čo sa nepodarilo žiadnemu inému tímu. Viac ako jednu sekundu ešte našli Sauber, Haas a Mercedes.

Najmenší progres zaznamenali Alpine a Red Bull.

Podľa simulácie kvalifikačnej rýchlosti z dielne F1.com má najväčšiu šancu na pole position Red Bull. Ferrari však stráca len jedinú desatinku na kolo.

Medzi McLarenom, Mercedesom a Aston Martinom je to nesmierne vyrovnané. Ostatné tímy výrazne zaostali.

Mercedes pred VC Japonska odstránil charakteristický zelený pruh v spodnej časti auta. Podľa tímu po nasadení noviniek už skrátka “nepasuje k tvaru monopostu”. Nahradil ho zeleným pruhom za logom sponzora Petronas.

Pirelli nám prináša prehľad zostávajúcich pneumatík po piatku v Suzuke. Red Bully, Ferrari a Kevin Magnussen majú až tri stredne tvrdé sady.

Logan Sargeant v piatok vyšiel pravými kolesami až na trávnik, po čom stratil kontrolu nad svojím autom. Keby bol ešte na svojom niekdajšom poste Patrick Head, ako to bolo za čias Juana Pabla Montoyu, možno by aj Sargeantovi odkázal niečo podobné, čo kedysi Kolumbijčanovi.

“Juan Pablo, keď pôjdeš po tom čiernom, tak zistíš, že je tam oveľa viac gripu,” utrúsil Head.

Williams nie je jediný tím, ktorý preteká bez náhradného šasi. Boss Alpinu Bruno Famin práve potvrdil, že jeho tím taktiež nemá náhradný kus. Sľubuje však, že už v Číne ho Alpine bude mať.

Charles Leclerc pripravil do Japonska takúto nádhernú poctu svojmu krstnému otcovi Julesovi Bianchimu. Práve tu mal francúzsky pretekár pred desiatimi rokmi nehodu, ktorá sa mu stala osudnou. Charles tak má v Suzuke špeciálnu helmu, ktorá je inšpirovaná Bianchiho dizajnom.

Šasi Logana Sargeanta náraz v prvom tréningu prežilo, potvrdil tím na sociálnych sieťach i ústami šéfa Jamesa Vowlesa. Problémy však pretrvávajú. Americký pretekár pri náraze zničil vylepšené predné i zadné krídlo a po zvyšok víkendu sa musí vrátiť k starej špecifikácii. Okrem toho nie je isté, či mechanici zvládnu opraviť rozsiahle poškodenia do štartu druhého tréningu.

Aston Martin priviezol do Japonska novú špecifikáciu monopostu. Tú v piatok nasadí iba Lance Stroll. Diely pre Fernanda Alonsa by mali doraziť v priebehu dneška a v sobotu by ich mal nasadiť aj druhý z pilotov stajne.
